When you join the course, you will meet other local, new beekeepers, who will form your personal support group. You may not realise how many other beekeepers are close to you and your bees! Beginners in 2022 helped each other during the swarm season, lending each other frames and foundation when they needed it in a hurry, lending nuc. boxes for short periods of time, sharing pictures of the 'goings on' in their hives and seeking advice from each other and also from the wider membership of Brighton and Lewes Beekeepers.
There is a meeting planned once a month starting in April, finishing in September. This course is for complete beginners. Beginners may not have bees yet, or might be waiting for bees, either from a local supplier or from the swarm coordinator. The basics of beekeeping will be explained over six sessions in real time. Members of the group will be able to join an out-apiary meeting of their preference in the week following the meeting at The Barn. The aim of the course is to boost beekeeping confidence and to prepare members for the BBKA Basic Assessment in 2024.
